"Hunt You Down" is a song by performed by Kesha. It serves as the ninth track on Kesha's third album Rainbow.

Background[]

The song was first mentioned in an interview with The New York Times. It was described as "a real country song with banjo and some real country sentiments" by the interviewer.[1]

The song was first heard at the beginning of the music video for "Woman", before it cuts off and begins that song.

Music and composition[]

'Hunt You Down' is a song I did with Rick Knowles. I was listening to a lot of Dolly Parton and Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings, and other outlaw country. I wanted to get back to my country roots. I remember listening to a song where a guy was talking about how he had his revolver in his pocket, and he was going to shoot the girl because she was sleeping with his best friend or something. And I was like, "OK — Well, if a man can say that, then I'm gonna write a song about how if you cheat on me, I'm gonna kill you." So that's what "Hunt You Down" is — it's kind of my feminist, tongue-in-cheek response to all the outlaw cowboy songs from the male perspective about cheating women.

Critical reception[]

Pitchfork opined:

"Kesha tears through country as she does rock. “Hunt You Down” is a blatant June Carter homage—it name-drops “I Walk the Line” halfway through, for those who hadn't gotten it before—and its goony stalker glee makes for something like a rockabilly version of her song “Stephen”."[2]

The Rolling Stone opined:

"On the standout “Hunt You Down,” she evokes June Carter with a devilishly threatening country ditty: “Baby, I love you so much,” she sings in the most innocent Southern-belle voice she can muster, then warns, “Don’t make me kill you”."

Lyrics[]

I wanna be your baby your angel all in black
Your little blue-eyed gypsy who's always got your back
Yodel-odel-oh
Yodel-odel-oh-oh
I wanna be your favorite and always by your side
I wanna talk forever with babies down the line
Yodel-odel-oh
Yodel-odel-oh-oh
But I got somethin' to tell you first (alright)

I've never hurt nobody never buried a body
Never killed no one no, no
I ain't afraid to get a little crazy
Baby when I'm in love
You say you've had your fun
And that you're done and I'm the one
Just know that if you fuck around
Boy I'll hunt you down

I'm like a little kitty and I can see at night
I got eyes like a hawk babe I'm watchin' all the time
Yodel-odel-oh
Yodel-odel-oh-oh
But I got a warnin' for you first (alright)

I've never hurt nobody never buried a body
Never killed no one no, no
I ain't afraid to get a little crazy
Baby when I'm in love
You say you've had your fun
And that you're done and I'm the one
Just know that if you fuck around
Boy I'll hunt you down

I can't believe it night after night
Life is so perfect when you walk the line
Baby I love you so much
Don't make me kill you

I've never hurt nobody never buried a body
Never killed no one no, no
I ain't afraid to get a little crazy
Baby when I'm in love
You say you've had your fun
But that you're done and I'm the one
Just know that if you fuck around
Remember I've never hurt nobody never buried a body
Never killed no one no, no
I ain't afraid to get a little crazy
Baby when I'm in love
You say you've had your fun
But that you're done and I'm the one
Just know that if you fuck around
Boy I'll hunt you down
Yeah boy I'll hunt you down
